Septic Maintenance Program
The Septic Maintenance Program is intended to extend the life of septic systems serving one- and two-family households in the West-of-Hudson Watershed. A typical septic system includes a tank that should be pumped, cleaned and inspected every three to five years by a licensed professional to prevent system failures that result in costly repairs and pose a threat to the environment.
The program is open to homeowners anywhere in the WOH Watershed who had new or replacement septic systems installed after November 1, 1995 and at least three years ago. Also eligible are homeowners who were “Checked OK” through the CWC Septic Replacement Program at least three years ago.
Contract with any licensed septage hauler and arrange to have your tank pumped out. An inspection check list must be filled out and signed by the hauler. Pay the hauler, and return the checklist to the CWC, along with the reimbursement form, contractor's invoice and proof of payment (contractor's receipt or cancelled check).
Our program reimburses homeowners for up to 50% of the eligible costs for inspections and pump-outs. We do not pay sales tax, nor do we encourage or pay for enzyme treatments or system additives.
